How to Add Dashboard Widgets

Widgets are the modular components that make up the modular Dashboard grid. To add a new widget to your Dashboard,

1. Click the + Add a widget button
2. Select a widget type from the dropdown list

How to Configure Dashboard Widgets

Each widget type has its own set of configuration options. To access these options…

1. Click the three-dot icon in the upper right corner of the widget you want to configure
2. Select Configure from the dropdown

Chart

Dashboard Chart widgets work just like charts included in workbooks: select a chart type, make your data selection, and configure your chart’s appearance as desired.

Configuring Chart Widgets

When you add a new chart to your Dashboard, you will be prompted to configure it with the same options available in workbook charts. Learn more about creating and managing charts – as well as each of the dozen-plus chart types supported in Spreadsheet.com – in our Charts section.

Number

The Number widget lets aggregate data from a worksheet column or display a value from a cell or range.

The Number widget can be used to display important information like…

• The sum of projected revenue across a CRM worksheet
• The minimum and maximum task start and end dates from a project schedule
• The average donation value from a fundraising worksheet

Configuring Number Widgets

From the configuration dialog, select the Widget Type, Source sheet, Source view, and Column or Cell or Range from which your value will be calculated. Then, specify the Aggregation type to determine how the number will be calculated and the Format in which the output will appear. The Number widget supports six aggregation types, each of which corresponds to a Spreadsheet.com function.

Image

The Image widget lets you display an image on your Dashboard. Like images in Attachment cells, images in Dashboards can be uploaded from your computer or third-party services like Google Drive and Dropbox.

Configuring Image Widgets

Click the blue Upload image button in the center of a new Image widget. Images can be uploaded from your computer’s file browser, or from a connected Google Drive, Box, OneDrive, or Dropbox account.

Video

The Video widget lets you embed a video from a third-party website like YouTube or Loom.

Configuring Video Widgets

From the configuration dialog, type or paste the URL at which the video is located in the Video link field. Note that you must include a URL, and not an embed code.

Web content

The Web content widget lets you embed a web page in your Dashboard. You can interact with the page without leaving your Dashboard.

Configuring Web content Widgets

From the configuration dialog, enter the URL of the site you want to embed in the Web content link field.

If you see a gray window in your Dashboard widget, the site you are attempting to embed may block embedding. Only websites that support embedding are supported by the Web content widget.

View

The View widget lets you embed a View from a connected workbook in your Dashboard. If you have Collaborator, Manager, or Owner access to the embedded View, you will be able to edit the data in the View directly from your Dashboard. Otherwise, the View will be included as read-only.

Configuring View Widgets

From the configuration dialog, select the Source sheet and Source View to embed in your Dashboard. You can also opt to Show only table region. Leaving this option unchecked will show both the table and table header regions.

Currently, the View widget only supports Sheet Views. Support for other View types will be enabled in a future release.

Report

The Report widget lets you embed a Spreadsheet.com Report in your Dashboard. Choose from two types of Reports – a Source report or an Inline report.

A source report is one that you have already created in Spreadsheet.com. This is similar to including an existing View with the View widget. Configuration changes must be made in the original Report document, and cannot be made from the Dashboard widget. 

An inline report is one that is created solely for your Dashboard. Configuration changes must be made from the Dashboard widget, as the Report does not exist elsewhere.

Configuring Report Widgets

From the configuration dialog, choose the Report type. If you select “Source report”, you can then select any existing report within your workspace. If you select “Inline report”, you will be presented with the same options as if you were creating a new Report, with options to select the source sheets and display columns. When creating an inline report, available source sheets are limited to those which have been added to your Dashboard.

Text

The Text widget lets you include a Rich Text passage in your Dashboard. Like worksheet cells with the Rich Text data type, the Text widget can include special formatting like lists, links, blockquotes, and codeblocks, and supports markdown language.
