Importing and Exporting Spreadsheets

With Spreadsheet.com, it's easy to import your existing spreadsheet files, as well as export your Spreadsheet.com documents.

Importing workbooks retains data, styling, formatting, formulas, and more. Currently, you can import Excel or CSV files from your computer, including some exports from other spreadsheet programs like Google Sheets.

Use imported spreadsheets to get up and running quickly, pulling in existing formatting or reusing complex formulas. Spreadsheet.com is a standards-compliant spreadsheet platform that includes powerful collaborative features, allowing you to take your spreadsheets further than before.

How does Spreadsheet.com convert data?

When importing, Spreadsheet.com retains data, styling, formatting, formulas, cross-sheet formulas, images, named ranges, and more. In Spreadsheet.com, Excel or Google Sheets are converted to Worksheets, to which you can add views

One unique aspect of Spreadsheet.com is that it converts cells and columns with custom "Number Formats" (Excel) or "Formats" (Google Sheets) to Data Types. Data types allow you fine control over formatting and allow for unique formulas and data types (like Duration).

  1. Open the Workspaces sidebar by clicking on your workspace icon
  2. Click the blue +New button above the search bar
  3. Select the type of new document you want to create

Which spreadsheets can be imported into Spreadsheet.com?

Spreadsheet.com allows a variety of file formats to be imported, including:

  • Excel files with the extensions .XLS and .XLSX
  • Excel templates with the extensions .XLT and .XLTX
  • Other spreadsheets with the extensions .CSV and .TSV

Imported spreadsheets are subject to row limitations based on your plan. For more information, see our article on Workbook Storage and Size Limits, or read more about Spreadsheet.com plans.

Importing from Google Sheets and Other Platforms

Currently, Spreadsheet.com does not support importing directly from other spreadsheet platforms like Google Sheets. However, you can export spreadsheets from these platforms as either Excel files or CSV files and then import the exported documents into Spreadsheet.com.

Importing Spreadsheet Templates

When importing template type spreadsheets (XLT and XLTX file types), Spreadsheet.com converts these to regular workbooks. You can then turn them (or any workbook) into a Spreadsheet.com template.

Once you've imported a spreadsheet, try collaborating with others in your Workbook, adding in custom views like Kanban views, or relating worksheets to refer to data across workbooks.

Exporting Spreadsheet.com Workbooks

Spreadsheet.com workbooks can be exported as PDF files, or as .XLSX files for use in Excel.

Exporting Workbooks as .XLSX Files

Inside your workbook, open the document menu and navigate to File > Download > Microsoft Excel (.xslx).

Your workbook will be downloaded to your computer as an .XLSX file. Cells with data types that have no equivalent in Excel (e.g., Attachments, Related rows, Collaborators, etc.) will be converted to the closest human-readable text equivalent value.

Exporting Sheet Views as PDF Files

Once inside a Sheet view, open the document menu and navigate to File > Download > PDF (.pdf). Use the Print settings dialog to configure the downloaded PDF file.
