Keyboard Shortcuts

Keyboard shortcuts allow you to control navigate, edit, and more in Spreadsheet.com all without a mouse.

Expert spreadsheeters often find that keyboard shortcuts help them work faster or may be used to shortcuts in other spreadsheet tools.

Use keyboard shortcuts to quickly navigate to the end of a row, select multiple entries in a column, paste the same entry in multiple places, or undo and redo actions.

Shortcuts to navigate and move about a worksheet.

  • Arrow Up ↑ — move to the cell above your current cell.
  • Arrow Down ↓ — move to cell underneath your current cell.
  • Arrow Right → — move to the cell to the right of the current cell.
  • Arrow Left ← — move to the cell to the left of the current cell.
  • Tab — move to the cell to the right of the current cell.
  • Tab + Shift — move to the cell to the left of the current cell.
  • Home — move to the first cell in a row.
  • End — move to the last cell in a row.
  • Ctrl + Home — move up multiple rows along a column.
  • Ctrl + End — move down multiple rows along a column.

Selecting

Shortcuts to help select one or more cells.

  • Ctrl + A — select all cells.
  • Shift + Arrow Up ↑ — extend your selection to one cell above.
  • Shift + Arrow Down ↓ — extend your selection to one cell underneath.
  • Shift + Arrow Right → — extend your selection to one cell to the right.
  • Shift + Arrow Left ← — extend your selection to one cell on the left.
  • Shift + Home — select all cells in the row to the left including the current cell.
  • Shift + End — select all cells in the row to the right including the current cell.
  • Ctrl + Shift + Home — select all cells in the column to the top including the current cell.
  • Ctrl + Shift + End — select all cells in the column to the bottom including the current cell.
  • Ctrl + Shift + Arrow — (Windows) extend your selection to contiguous populated cells.
  • Command + Shift + Arrow — (Mac) extend your selection to contiguous populated cells.

Editing

Shortcuts to edit, copy, cut, and paste the contents of cells.

  • Enter — open the cell editor or, if already opened, close cell editor and move one cell down.
  • F2 — open the cell editor.
  • Esc — cancel editing and close cell editor.
  • Backspace — empty your selection of its contents.
  • Delete — empty your selection of its contents.
  • Ctrl + C — copy selection's contents.
  • Ctrl + X — cut selection's contents.
  • Ctrl + V — paste selection's content.
  • Ctrl + Enter — fill all selected cells with the editor's value.
  • Ctrl + Z — undo action.
  • Ctrl + Y — redo previously undone action.

Shortcuts that allow you to navigate menus inside your worksheet, like the data type dialog box, or from select options in the select list drop-down.

  • Arrow Down ↓ — move to the next option in the context menu.
  • Arrow Up ↑ — move to the previous option in the context menu.
  • Enter — select option from the context menu.

Merging Cells

Shortcut to merge and unmerge selected cells.

  • Ctrl + M — merge/unmerge selected cells.
