Icon set

The Icon set data type is used to select from a predefined set of symbols.

Fill your cells and columns with icons like Red/Yellow/Green status indicators, Harvey Balls to indicate completion, Slate Arrows, Pain Scale faces, and more.

Icon sets are a great way to quickly visualize the status of projects, tasks, bugs, collateral in development, and more. Add icon sets where ever you want to indicate priority, measurements, status, or simply want to flag rows. For instance, use icon sets in your team's bug tracker to note high-priority bugs, use Harvey balls to indicate how far your developers are in their fix, or mark when the submitter agrees the bug has been resolved.

Configuration Options

Strict

Like other data types, the Icon set data type can have Strict enabled. Selecting the Strict checkbox for Icon set cells will restrict users to input only icons. Also, columns that have Strict enabled cannot have cells of different data types.

Conversion Behavior

Icon set cell values can be displayed both as the symbol or the matching text value as noted in the table above.

When converting existing data, if a column, cell, or range of cells are changed to the Icon data type, then any cells with these matching names will convert to the corresponding symbol.

Similarly, if you change icon sets, any matching symbols will remain, but all others will be converted to the symbol's text name or emptied.

You can always revert by selecting Undo in the top left corner of the toolbar, or by using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Z (CMD + Z for Mac users).

Spreadsheet.com also supports the Rating data type to indicate ratings between 0 and 10, the Select data type for a custom list of drop-down options, and the Attachment data type to add images and other files in cells. Or, read on to learn more about the rest of Spreadsheet.com's Data Types.
